New Energy Efficiency Rules for Queensland Homes
April 2, 2024 1 Min read
Starting May 1st, 2024, Queensland will implement the NCC's Modern Homes energy efficiency standards for residential houses and units. These standards aim to make buildings more energy-efficient by focusing on factors like the roof, walls, windows, and floors, as well as the energy consumption of household appliances and equipment.
The new standards require newly constructed houses and units to meet specific criteria, such as a 7-star rating out of 10 for the building shell, which means that the buildings will be designed to use less energy. They will also have to comply with a comprehensive Whole of Home energy budget, which will encourage the use of energy-efficient appliances and equipment like air-conditioners, hot-water heaters, lighting, and solar energy systems.
In Queensland, there is an option to get a one-star credit for incorporating outdoor living areas to take advantage of the state's outdoor lifestyle and climate. However, the incentive for installing solar energy systems will be phased out by April 30, 2024, as it will be integrated into the Whole of Home energy budget.
