On 1 July 2019 the changes introduced by the Victorian Government to the Building Act 1993 came into effect as the Building Amendment (Enforcement and Other Measures) Act 2017. These changes were put in place to:
- Address difficulties in determining whether all building permit levy due has been remitted to the Victorian Building Authority (VBA)
- Remove the burden placed on building surveyors to collect and report the levy
- Improve the VBA’s ability to monitor building work
Submission of the building permit levy and building permit number applications will be processed through BAMS, an online building permit activity system.
Over the past few months Visual Approvals has worked in consultation with the VBA defining the requirements for the transfer of data. The team have worked tirelessly undertaking extensive user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure that Visual Approvals is BAMS compliant. The commitment by the team to ensure that all building class scenarios were accepted by BAMS, will enable a smooth transition for clients of Visual Approvals.
